Proceedings of 2009, Feb, 13 (RMV Club) - 13th Club Day

The meeting convened with all excitement on the eve of Club Day. The Club completed 13 years on 12th February. However the celebration took place on Friday the 13th of February. The Rotaract Club of Presidency College, which is sponsored by Rotary Bangalore Raj Mahal Vilas, also joined the function. Rtr. Dilip is the president of this Rotaract Club.



The members of Rotaract Club presented the crowd with amazing songs and dance sequence. Though many songs were from Bollywood, the highlight of the function was a Tandava dance by a Rotaract member Mr. Suresh who hails from Sri Lanka.


The entertainment was followed by cake cutting by Chartered President Rtn. S.K Bajaj and others. During this juncture, the crowd was presented with the history of the club. As usual we adjourned after singing National Anthem. Hot dinner was waiting for us with spirited cold drinks.





BRIEF HISTORY OF ROTARY RMV



The Club was chartered on the 12th February 1996 with Rtn. S.K Bajaj as
its Chartered President with humble membership strength of 27 members.
PDG Nagaraj was the GSR. Since then the club has completed 13 years,

In all these years Rotary RMV has been a very dynamic and pro-active
club and has to its credit a significant list of service projects. Some
of which are



The COMPUTER LITRACY PROJECT

Used computer systems, but working, from software companies was
collected upgraded and installed at various institutions to offer
computer training facility to the poor and needy. It was also a joint
participation of State Govt. during the tenure of Shri S.M Krishna as
the Chief Minister who inaugurated the project. The Project size was
over Rs. 50 lakhs.



AVOIDABLE BLINDNESS

The project involves providing free Eye Cataract Surgery to the needy.
Under this district project our club so far has contributed nearly Rs. 2
lakhs which have benefitted nearly 1000 beneficiaries.



COMPHREHENSIVE CHILD HEALTH CARE

This was one of the most successful and effective Matching Grant
projects. The project was executed for 4 years covering nearly 3500
children from the poor schools. The objective of the project was to
ensure that no child drops out due to health reasons. The project
ensures check up, treatment and medicine in the areas of ENT, Skin, EYE
& Dental. Blood check up was done and also Vitamin tablets, iron tablets
and also de-worming were provided regularly. The project size was nearly
5 lakhs.



CANCER AWARENESS

This project was again a Matching Grant Project with Rotary Club of
Clackamas USA. The awareness was conducted along with detection program
on various segments of people vulnerable to Cancer like the Municipality
workers and other tobacco consuming segments. The total project size was
Rs.4 lakhs.



WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

This project was started as a pilot project, which went on to become the
Clubs Centennial Project and today the project is co-funded by RC
Colville. The objective of the project is to empower women with
vocational skills, so that they can support themselves and their family.
The target beneficiaries are the destitute and marginalized women. So
far the project has been successful in training over 200 women with
basic tailoring and Bakery Courses. Today the club runs a dedicated
Training Center for Tailoring at Mathikere. The project size so far has
been over 5 lakhs.



LITERACY PROJECT

Rotary RMV has been donating every year exercise books to nearly 600
poor school children. The project so far has contributed nearly Rs.2
lakhs over the years.



VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION CAMPS

Every year our club organizes couple of Voluntary Blood donation camps
and collects over 500 units of blood for the blood banks.



HALL OF HONOUR

Our club has been contributing to the Rotary Foundation perennially.
During the Centennial Year 2004-05, our club became the 100% PHF Club
and entered its name in the Rotary Hall of Honour.



VOCATIONAL AWARDS

We have recognized very prominent and worthy citizens in our community
and awarded them the Vocational Excellence Award in recognition for
their commendable work.



SISTER CLUB RELATIONSHIP

We have successfully established sister club relationship with RC
Clackamas, RC. Lords Valley and RC Colville, all the three from USA. The
relationship has blossomed into Matching Grant projects and with some it
resulted into friendship exchange.



HOSTING GSE/FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE TEAMS

Members of our club have always been generous in host many a GSE team
members during the years. Our district has awarded our club for showing
this magnanimous hospitality to the visiting Rotarians from other
counties.



ROTARACT CLUBS

Our club has sponsored the formation of Rotaract Club of Presidency
College, Bangalore and is jointly doing some useful projects for the
community and youth development.
